Ukraine just approved long-range strikes and dropped its own ceasefire offer
Ukraine just went the other way on this war.
Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine's President, has approved new long-range strike operations against Russia.
He posted it a few hours ago on X.
Before he posted it, he sat down with two people. Yevhenii Khmara, Ukraine's Defence Minister. And Mykhailo Drapatyi, the Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine's armed forces.
Then he said this. Quote "I have also approved new long-range operations in response to Russian strikes".
No targets named. No timeline given. No word on whether anything has actually launched yet.
So why now?
Because of what happened to Ukraine overnight.
Russia hit Ukraine with 174 drones and two Zircon missiles. Then a shopping centre in Dnipro got hit too.
And a separate strike hit a high-rise flat in Sumy. At least two people are dead there. Several more are wounded.
So this is Ukraine answering one night of bombardment with a promise of more reach, not less.
Zelensky said something else too. He said Ukraine has built systems that already work against Russia's Shahed jet-powered drones, in real combat, right now.
He said Ukraine is working to ensure quote "consistent effectiveness in interceptions" and mass production of those systems.
That's Ukraine saying its homemade defences work. Now it wants enough of them to matter.
One of those systems is already flying. Ukraine's new interceptor drone came from information supplied by Oleksandr Poklad, who runs the SBU, Ukraine's domestic security service.
And it worked again the same day. It shot down a Russian Geran-5 drone, according to the Ukrainian outlet LB.ua.
This isn't a one-off. It's a pattern.
