Russia just shot down a huge wave of drones heading for Moscow

So let's talk about why this matters.

Russia says its air defences brought down 163 drones in one night. That's one of the biggest barrages aimed at Moscow since the war started in February 2022.

And it's not just the number. Every single airport in the capital shut down at once. Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Zhukovsky, Sheremetyevo. All four.

Now, Ukraine does this a lot. Long-range drones hitting refineries, airfields, military sites, deep inside Russia. The goal isn't to take land. It's to squeeze Russia's economy and stretch its air defences thin.

But here's the thing. Two days ago, Donald Trump said the war in Ukraine is closer to ending than it has ever been.

And then this happens. One of the heaviest nights of drone activity against Moscow in months. Nobody's explained that contradiction yet.

So what don't we know? Whether any drones actually made it into Moscow itself, or whether they were all stopped further out, like Sobyanin says. One report says there's no sign of damage inside the city, but that hasn't been confirmed anywhere else.

The confirmed damage and injuries are all in Lipetsk and in the region outside Moscow. Not the capital itself.

Russia says the drones are Ukrainian. Ukraine hasn't said a word, not a confirmation, not a denial.

So three questions are still open. Did anything reach Moscow? Will Ukraine claim it? And is this a one-off, or the start of something bigger, timed right before America's midterm elections.
