Russia just got accused of arming Iran and Trump still says he does not believe it
Ukraine's president just said Russia is arming Iran.
Volodymyr Zelensky said it in Oslo, less than a day ago, standing next to an American envoy.
He said Russia gave Iran drone parts. And probably satellite intelligence too.
So what exactly did he say? He said Putin has helped Iran, and that Ukraine has seen details from drones Russia delivered to Tehran. He said Russia shared satellite data with Iran too. His words: quote "This is what we know".
That's Ukraine's president, standing next to Donald Trump's envoy, accusing Russia of arming the country America is still at war with.
Now, this isn't a new claim. But it's a new moment to make it.
Zelensky first said this back in March, in an interview with CNN. In July, he went further. He said Russian satellites tracked four US-linked air bases in the Middle East over two days — two in Bahrain, one in Jordan, one in Kuwait. And he said there was a clear link between that satellite imagery and Iranian strikes, both before they happened and after.
A Kyiv Post report in September said Ukrainian intelligence had found a wider Russian-Iranian network watching US and Gulf military sites.
And a second Kyiv Post report on this same Oslo press conference backs up what Zelensky said, on both the drones and the satellite intelligence.
He wouldn't say whether he thinks Putin is using Iran as leverage over Trump. All he'd say was quote "I know that Russia stays on the side of Iranians".
Here's why the timing matters. Around that same July hearing, Pete Hegseth, America's Defense Secretary, told Congress that Russia and China were helping Iran, in guarded terms. Days later, Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that he didn't believe it. He said Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin had personally given him assurances.
Then, about a week ago, Trump said it again. He wrote that if Russia and China were helping Iran, it would only be at a very low level, and that he didn't believe they were involved at all. He added both countries had too much to lose, and that America would find out fast if they were.
