Kim Jong Un is back home after a one-day trip to China.
He crossed into Dandong this morning. That's the Chinese border city. It's his first visit to China in more than a year.
He went over the New Yalu River Bridge. Four lanes, links Sinuiju in North Korea with Dandong in China. South Korea's Unification Ministry confirmed the trip. China's Xinhua News Agency reported it after Kim was already on his way home.
This is Kim's sixth trip to China since he took power in 2011. His last one was in September last year, when he went to Beijing for the 80th anniversary of victory over Japan and sat down with Xi Jinping.
So who did he actually meet this time? Wang Huning. China's fourth-highest-ranked official, a member of the Communist Party's Politburo Standing Committee.
Wang brought a message. Xinhua says he passed on cordial greetings and best wishes from Xi Jinping himself.
The two men toured a car factory together. Then they went to a Korean War memorial in the city, to honour the Chinese soldiers who died fighting there. When the visit ended, Wang went back to the bridge with Kim to see him off.
Now here's the detail that actually matters. That bridge.
It was finished in 2014. China paid around 310 million dollars for it. And then it sat there, unused, for 12 years. North Korea never built the roads and customs posts on its own side to open it.
It only opened about a week before Kim showed up. So this wasn't Kim cutting the ribbon himself, whatever some reports are suggesting. He's just the first North Korean leader to actually use it.
The rest of this story is for members.

Kim said something too, through Xinhua. In his own words, North Korea is willing to work with China to build on their long friendship and widen practical cooperation between the two countries.
Now the timing. This trip happened one day before 25 October. That's the anniversary North Korea and China mark every year, the date China entered the Korean War in 1950 to fight alongside the North.
And it comes four months after Xi Jinping made his own visit to Pyongyang in June. They talked trade, agriculture, construction, technology.
So what's the bigger picture? People who study North Korea say this fits a pattern. Kim has spent two years pulling North Korea closer to Beijing and Moscow. He's called it a new Cold War against the United States. North Korean troops have already fought alongside Russia in Ukraine. Kim has met Vladimir Putin several times.
And here's the meeting nobody's talking about yet. China is hosting the APEC summit in Shenzhen next month. Donald Trump is expected to go. He's said he'd like to meet Kim while he's in the region. North Korea hasn't said a word back.
So there are two ways to read this trip. A routine visit to open a long-delayed bridge. Or Kim positioning himself right before Trump lands in China. Nothing Xinhua or Seoul has said points to either one.
Some details are still single-sourced. Japan's Kyodo news agency says there were tight traffic controls and hotel-booking restrictions in parts of Dandong before the visit, citing unnamed diplomatic sources. South Korea's National Intelligence Service reportedly briefed parliament's Intelligence Committee the day before, on the chance Kim would travel to China. Neither claim shows up anywhere else.
North Korea's own state media, KCNA, hadn't reported on the visit at the time of writing. China's Foreign Ministry hasn't confirmed it either. Nobody from the United States, Japan or South Korea's government has said anything beyond the Unification Ministry confirming the trip happened.
What happened in Dandong isn't in doubt. What it's actually for is still Kim's to explain. So far, he hasn't.
