America just sanctioned more firms over Iran as its own war costs it Congress
Trump just sanctioned more companies for helping Iran.
And this is one day after he said the Iran war cost his own party Congress.
So what actually happened? Democrats won the Senate and the House two days ago.
The next day, reporters asked Trump straight up: did the war hurt Republicans?
He said quote "it's largely true because it drove the gasoline up a little bit short term".
Then he defended it anyway. Long term, he says, it's the only answer. You can't let Iran get a nuclear weapon. He's also said if he had to do it again, he'd do it again.
So Trump is saying the war cost him Congress. And he's doing more of it.
A few hours after that, the Treasury rolled out new sanctions. They're calling it Operation Economic Outcast.
Here's who got hit. An India-based network run by Suniel Kumar Sharma and his wife, Jaspreet Preeti Shahid. They're accused of giving fake paperwork and false flags to ships carrying Iranian oil.
And a Turkish company, Fugo Ground Services, accused of helping Iran's blacklisted aviation industry.
That's the clearest sign yet of what's next. More sanctions. Not less war.
Now here's why Republicans are nervous. A survey of more than 100,000 voters found about six in ten think the US made the wrong call going to war with Iran.
JD Vance, the Vice President, wrote on X that the war is the reason Republicans lost. He said voters also cared about the cost of living, an America First agenda, and changing Washington's relationship with Israel.
But the same survey found only about a third of voters called the Iran war crucial to their vote. Nearly half said that about the cost of living instead.
So the war wasn't the only reason Republicans lost. It was one of several.
Oil has already moved. Brent crude dropped below $95 a barrel, the lowest in two months, right after the results came in.
Trump says his Cabinet isn't changing because of any of this. Asked if he'd replace Pete Hegseth, the Defence Secretary who has run the Iran campaign, Trump told reporters he thinks Hegseth is doing a very good job.
