Ukraine just asked America to use China against Russia
Ukraine just asked America to pull China into the fight against Russia.
Here's what happened. Volodymyr Zelenskyy sat down with Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, about 18 hours ago. And he told him straight: get Xi Jinping involved.
Zelenskyy says quote "he also engages President Xi – he has influence on Putin".
So Ukraine's president just named China, to the American president's face, as the lever on Russia.
And the timing is not an accident. Donald Trump sits down with Xi Jinping in Washington tomorrow, on 24 September. Zelenskyy got his ask in hours before the biggest meeting on the war's calendar this month.
What he didn't say? What he actually wants Xi to tell Putin. No detail. Just the appeal.
Beijing hasn't moved an inch. China's line has been the same since the war started: call for peace talks, never blame Russia, never pressure Moscow in public. As of now, Xi Jinping and his government haven't said a word about Zelenskyy's request.
Zelenskyy didn't stop there either. He also pushed Trump to set up a three-way sit-down with Putin. Said Ukraine would show up right now.
He says quote "I'm ready anytime when all the sides will be ready".
Russia's answer came the same day. And it was cold.
Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, said a Putin-Zelenskyy meeting before officials sort out the details would be a waste of time. Then he added something else. Putin has offered that Zelenskyy can come to Moscow, if he wants to.
