He didn't name the countries he means. He gave no details of the operation he says already happened.
No response yet from the US or its allies.
That's everything we know.
Why this mattersSo who is this guy? Not a minor voice.
Mojtaba Khamenei is Iran's Supreme Leader. He runs the armed forces. He decides military strategy.
He only took the job seven months ago. His father, Ali Khamenei, was killed in US and Israeli strikes on 28 February 2026 — the strikes that started this war. Iran's Assembly of Experts named him the country's third Supreme Leader on 9 March.
So when he talks about clearing the sea of enemies, he's talking about where he wants his own military to go next.
And this sea matters. The Strait of Hormuz sits right next to it. About a fifth of the world's oil goes through there. Iran has kept up the pressure on that strait since the war began, and the US has kept warships nearby to protect it.
One of those warships is heading there right now. The USS Theodore Roosevelt left San Diego a day ago. The deployment is expected to last more than seven months. It's taking over from the USS George Washington, which took over from the USS Abraham Lincoln.
That's three US aircraft carriers rotating through this war in seven months.
And the timing isn't random. Two days ago, Donald Trump rejected an Iranian plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days and restart nuclear talks. Iran's Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, said a day ago that Iran was still waiting for an official US answer.
Today, Donald Trump said he still expects more talks with Iran this week. And he said the US is going to win this war very soon.
Abbas Araghchi sounds different. He says Iran won't give up its sovereign rights despite the pressure and the threats. He says Iran wants real diplomacy — but is ready to face any new US attacks, even if that means what he calls an apocalyptic war.
So Iran's foreign minister and its Supreme Leader are both talking about diplomacy and a wider war in the same breath.
Here's what we don't know. Is Mojtaba Khamenei describing a plan already moving? Or is this a warning aimed straight at the American carrier now steaming towards the region?
Nobody outside Tehran can answer that yet.
