America just admitted it tracked the men plotting to bomb its own airbase in Britain
Five men are under arrest near RAF Fairford.
That's the base in Gloucestershire the US uses to bomb Iran.
And Donald Trump says America had these men under watch long before British police moved in.
So this is bigger than a UK police story.
Here's what happened. Police got a call at around 12:45am about three suspicious vehicles heading for the base. They stopped the vehicles in Whelford, right next to RAF Fairford, and arrested five men.
Gloucestershire Police say the men are suspected of Explosives Act offences and of preparing a terrorist act.
Homemade explosive devices were reportedly found in three white vans near the base.
A 400-metre cordon went up. The Army's bomb disposal unit checked the vehicles. 85 households nearby were evacuated.
Assistant Chief Constable Richard Ocone says the incident is now contained.
But here's the twist. This was never just a British police job.
Donald Trump told reporters a few hours after the arrests that American intelligence had been watching these men for an extended period before British police made their move. He said they were aiming to do significant damage to the base.
So the story changes completely.
This isn't UK police catching a plot in real time. This is a joint US-UK operation. American intelligence was tracking these men before anyone was arrested.
Now, why does RAF Fairford matter so much?
Because of what flies out of it.
It's a forward operating location for US Air Force Global Strike Command. It hosts the 501st Combat Support Wing Headquarters and the 420th Air Base Squadron. In recent months, B-52 and B-1 bombers have flown out of it on strikes against Iran.
When did that start? Two outlets say February 2026. One says March 2026, under the previous Prime Minister, Keir Starmer. Whichever date is right, this base has been part of the war with Iran for months.
