Saudi Arabia's main airport just got bombed for a third day straight
Houthi forces have hit Saudi Arabia's main airport for a third day in a row.
And their leader just went on television to make a promise.
The war goes on, however long it takes.
King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh got hit again today. So did Najran Airport. So did the Royal Saudi Air Force's King Khalid Air Base.
CNN verified images showing smoke pouring over Terminal 4. A Saudi aircraft sat damaged on the ground. A parked Saudia jet caught fire and was badly damaged. Nobody can confirm yet if a missile hit it directly, or if it was falling debris from an interception.
So who's telling the truth about what actually landed?
The Saudi-led coalition says it shot down three missiles. Two were heading for Riyadh. One was heading for Khamis Mushait, near the Yemeni border. Saudi Arabia's civil defence agency says falling debris from one of those interceptions hit a kindergarten and a medical clinic in Riyadh. Nobody was hurt there.
The coalition has not confirmed a single missile actually reached the airport.
But the Houthis say it did. Their military spokesperson, Yahya Saree, says their missiles and drones hit their targets today and disrupted air traffic across Saudi Arabia.
Both stories can't be true at once. And nobody outside the two sides has confirmed either of them.
Here's how bad the last two days already were. Three people are dead. 36 are wounded. A Sudanese man was killed at Riyadh's airport, along with eight others hurt. Further south, at Abha International Airport, two women died — one Moroccan, one Algerian. 28 more were wounded there.
This is already changing how people fly in and out of the region. Air India has cancelled its Riyadh flights. The Lufthansa Group has suspended service to the city until 16 October.
And the Houthis say that's exactly the point. They've warned international airlines, in their own words, for the last time to stay out of Saudi airspace. They're calling it a theatre for their military operations.
