Russia just bombed Ukraine on America's election day
Russia just fired 17 ballistic missiles at Ukraine.
And 59 cruise missiles. And 289 drones. All in one night.
It happened a few hours ago, on the same day Americans vote in the midterm elections.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine's President, says the main target was the energy grid — power plants and substations across nine regions.
In Kharkiv, Russia hit the city's clinical hospital directly. Zelenskyy says 73 people were hurt there. Earlier numbers from the city were lower, and a wire report later said at least 62. Those figures haven't been reconciled.
In Dnipropetrovsk region, a strike on Dnipro and Kryvyi Rih killed one person and wounded 17.
The air raid alert was still on when Zelenskyy spoke. Russia's Ministry of Defence says it hit energy sites and port infrastructure in Odesa. It hasn't said a word about the timing.
That's everything we know.
