America's president just said Iran bombing Los Angeles would be worth it
Donald Trump just said letting Iran bomb Los Angeles and San Diego would be a small price to pay.
He said it at a campaign rally in Grand Island, Nebraska, about a day ago.
He was there campaigning for Pete Ricketts, the Republican senator running against an independent backed by national Democrats.
So here's what happened.
Trump was talking about the cost of the Iran war. Gas prices, mostly. Then he said this: "They can take out a city. Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego."
The crowd cheered.
He said it would be worth it, to keep the world safe and keep the country safe.
Read that back. The sitting president just named two American cities and suggested a foreign power destroying either one would be worth it.
And these aren't random cities.
Los Angeles holds the US Space Force's Space Systems Command headquarters. It's also home to Lockheed Martin, Boeing and Northrop Grumman — three of America's biggest defence contractors.
San Diego is bigger still. Naval Base San Diego sits there. That's the homeport of the US Navy's Pacific Fleet. Camp Pendleton is there too, and Naval Amphibious Base Coronado.
And the USS Abraham Lincoln, the aircraft carrier sent to fight in the Iran war, is based in San Diego.
So both cities Trump named are carrying the actual machinery of the war he was defending.
California hit back fast.
Gavin Newsom, California's Governor, posted on X. He said Trump had already sent the National Guard and Marines to occupy California — and now he's saying America's enemies should take out Los Angeles and San Diego too. He said Trump was "deranged and dangerous."
